About the session
Newborn

Newborn sessions are slow and gentle. I am 100% baby-led and take special care in working with you and your newborn's needs, making sure your baby is safe, warm and comfortable is my number one priority. I have had extensive training over 20 years to handle and pose newborns safely. I avoid overstimulating a newborn and we take breaks as needed for settling and feeding. Depending on how sleepy or hungry your baby is, sessions can take anywhere between 2 to 4 hours.
I am constantly reading your baby’s signs and cues. If your baby is not settling and seems uncomfortable, I adapt my session to ensure the happiness and comfort of your newborn and I monitor the heat of the room and baby. I also use techniques such as sound and motion to help soothe babies into deeper sleep.

Before you even arrive I am already creating a blissful and relaxing environment for your new baby to settle into. I have been told our studio feels a little bit magic as babies feel so calm and soothed throughout their sessions and it really is a place you can feel at home and enjoy watching your perfect portraits come together. With some direction from you and advice on your favourite colours, I will make my styling suggestions. I put together a couple of simple sets using wraps, blankets, bonnets and delicate head ties and halos. Elegant, classic & timeless is my style!
If this is your first baby, it is so important for you to feel relaxed and comfortable in the environment you are welcomed into for newborn photography. For some this is the first time and first reason they have left home, so I feel incredibly honoured to greet you and take care of you during your time in our studio. I have been called a baby whisperer - but what I believe is there are some key needs to be followed to encourage a newborn's happiness! Let me show you how I do it!! Questions & Answers
What is the ideal age for "Newborn" photography?
01
I recommend newborn portraits to be between 5 to 12 days old which encourages that sleepy, womb-like chilled baby vibe! But I will never say there's a "bad" time to photograph - these are your memories and they are happening EVERY day! I know the first 6 weeks is a really big deal and the lack of sleep challenging... so keep in mind a new baby is easiest to keep settled in those first 2 weeks. I work hard to keep the session running smooth & calm for everyone and am baby-led through out my session, constantly reading their hungry / tired signs.
When should I book?
02
Book as early as you can to hold your place for the session, I can only accept a certain number of newborn portraits per month to allow 100% quality both during and post production. However the date is of course flexible depending on the arrival of your newborn. So I hold approx 2 weeks before and after which allows your date to be the most suitable for you. That being said I can sometimes accept bookings if space is available!
How long is the session?
03
2 - 4 hours... But this depends on a few things! The sleepy / feeding needs of your baby and soothing time is the main focus of time and also the number of people in your family. I recommend a quiet morning the day of your photo shoot, a warm gentle bath and a good long feed before or at arrival. I will talk you through some of these tips before your booking.
What should we wear?
04
I recommend neutral colours, soft tones - white is always my favourite! I encourage this style as it keeps the focus on you and your connection and expressions - I also love bright or bold colours / patterns if that's you! (I will say avoid large logos or branded outfits) I can certainly help style you and ask for you to send me some images before your session. For family members it is ideal to be complimenting each other, rather than "matching".
When will we receive our portraits?
05
First step is your viewing gallery - Your soft proofed images will be ready approx 2-3 weeks after your photo shoot, you can choose your favourite number within your collection or upgrade (10, 20 or 30 digitals). I will usually show you between 40-60 images un-edited. Once you pick your collection, the finals are individually retouched and released to you within 2-4 weeks via the online gallery.
Now for the best part! Online shopping is now available! You can download your digitals and order your own prints, frames, announcement cards & baby albums for yourself and family members.
