Watch your little one cautiously, curiously or courageously be introduced to their first sweet experience… but do not fear, a sugar overload is not intended. The best portrait is about the mess created and sensory experience allowing them to investigate the soft, squishy icing!

These sessions also incorporate family and classic formal portraits before the cake and if desired, finish with a warm bubble bath!

Our pricing is simple & honest.

The foundation is digital portraits, but we will take you beyond the screen and share the value in the joy your family brings daily, when you can touch and see tangible prints. Additional images are available to purchase in larger collections upon viewing. Cake & Balloons are designed for simple or elaborate designs and budgets.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We recommend booking your maternity session at least 2-3 months in advance to secure your preferred date and time. Our calendar fills quickly, especially for sunrise and sunset sessions.

We provide a large range of dresses to borrow and recommend in studio : body fitting gowns, fabric wraps, lingerie sets, white shirt & jeans is popular or semi-nude with fabric draping (if comfortable).

For outdoors: Flowy maxi dresses, form-fitting dresses that showcase your bump, or coordinated outfits with your partner.
We provide a detailed style guide upon booking.

The optimal time for maternity photos is between 28-34 weeks when your bump is beautifully pronounced but you’re still comfortable. However, every pregnancy is different, so we can adjust timing based on your specific needs.

Professional hair and makeup can enhance your photos and help you feel your best. We partner with talented Sydney-based makeup artists who specialise in maternity photography and can arrange this service for an additional fee of $395.

Your health and comfort are our priority. If you need to reschedule for medical reasons, we’ll accommodate at no additional fee.

For outdoor sessions affected by weather, we’ll work with you to reschedule or switch to our studio option.

Absolutely! We encourage partners to participate, and including siblings creates beautiful family moments. For sessions with young children, we recommend bringing a helper to assist when they’re not being photographed.

Studio sessions typically last 1-1.5 hours, depending on the number of outfits or family members. While outdoor sessions (beach, garden, or city) may take 1.5-2 hours to account for location changes and varying lighting. Some people choose to do both sessions in one day!

It is so normal to feel self conscious but please don’t worry! Gentle retouching is included in all packages. If requested we can edit stretch marks, temporary skin blemishes, and other concerns while maintaining a natural look. Our posing techniques also help minimize areas of concern and focus on the connection to your newborn, not our body concerns.

The “golden hours” of sunrise and sunset provide the most flattering, soft lighting for maternity portraits. Harsh midday sun creates unflattering shadows and due to the heat can make you uncomfortable, especially during pregnancy.

This is where the magic happens! Trust in your photographer, Sarah has a way with people and she will gently guide you and pose all family members.

It’s the emotive conversation and the love and laughter you share during the session that creates your magic. You don’t need to plan ANYTHING – it will happen and all our clients worry about this – just look at their portraits!

City: The Rocks, Barangaroo Reserve, Observatory Hill

We will invite you to our studio, or set up a video call for you to be WOW’d by your viewing gallery within 2 weeks from your session.

During this time you can also ask questions about newborn portraits and make some plans for your walls at home to hold a place to enjoy these stunning photos!

Studio sessions offer controlled lighting, privacy, more outfit changes, and are weather-independent. Outdoor sessions provide natural lighting, scenic Sydney backdrops, and a more relaxed, candid feel. Many clients choose to combine both for variety.

With guidance if needed, your favourite images will be edited and retouched with your requests and sent to your within 2 to 4 weeks from appointment.

All wall art, print and albums are in production and will be received within a 10 to 15 day time frame.

WHERE DO WE SHOOT?

We photograph our maternity sessions both in-studio and on-location. We have some personal favourites in and around Sydney, guided by the light and time of year… but we are always open to our client’s inspiration!
