At Harlly & Co, we celebrate every milestone of your child’s growth with our Baby and Child Photography services. From the first signs of sitting and standing to those precious sibling interactions, our sessions are crafted to capture each developmental stage and the love that surrounds them.

Whether you choose a studio setting or a natural on-location shoot, we create stunning portraits that showcase your child’s progress and the joy of watching them grow. If you missed newborn photography, rest assured – that every stage of your child’s journey is unique and worth documenting, and it’s never too late to start. Our photographer, Sarah Hulme, is dedicated to capturing beautiful portraits at every age. The foundation is digital portraits, but we will take you beyond the screen and share the value in the joy your family brings daily, when you can touch and see tangible prints. Additional images are available to purchase in larger collections upon viewing.

A cake smash is a playful photo session celebrating a child’s first birthday (Or any birthday you like).

Your little one gets to explore, play with, and ultimately “smash” a specially designed birthday cake while we capture their hilarious and adorable reactions.

We have a large number of client’s images on our cake smash gallery page. Please review these images for ideas and feel free to send your own inspiration.

Our focus is always your baby. So the Harlly & Co style recommends simple colours and props to remain elegant and timeless. Pops of colour that compliment your baby.

Our sessions range in length between 1 to 2 hours. This all depends on your baby, their interaction and engagement. We build in plenty of time for breaks, outfit changes, and capturing those spontaneous moments that make each child unique.

Schedule session time around their best time of day
Ensure they’re well-rested, nap time is considered and they are well fed. Pack snacks and drinks!
Bring favorite comfort items
Don’t book on a busy day, make this the only activity!
No pressure to “perform” – we capture authentic moments
We create short breaks – so this photo shoot is not too overstimulating.

Our North Sydney Studio is set up and ready to go for a busy and messy cake smash. You will arrive with everything organised and leave the mess behind!

With more than 3 days notice we can postpone the cake and balloons. It is better to reschedule these sessions even if you have to pay for the supplies if your baby isn’t well.

Our studio offers a selection of baby clothes. We have a number of beautiful simple outfits ranging in colour, style & size. Although you are welcome to borrow and add to your own – let’s discuss what you have and how we can add to your selection!

Generally we create formal “clean” portraits first, then an outfit showing more skin so the cake mess can be visible.

At the end of your fun photoshoot, your baby can have a warm bath. This is optional but very helpful if they get icing on their skin!

Depending on the number of people involved – A typical session provides 25 to 50 professionally edited images. A lot more portraits are taken but we choose our best posed and candid images.

Some families upgrade to purchase the full collection – because there is a variety of sets and this is a busier than our standard baby sessions.

You can view in studio for a design appointment or via an online viewing gallery for easy viewing and selection. Digital download of high-resolution images. Print release included –

Absolutely! We encourage parents to participate, and including siblings creates beautiful family moments.

For outfits, we recommend :

Solid, neutral colours that don’t distract from features
Comfortable clothing that allows movement
Avoid large logos or busy patterns
Layers and textures add visual interest

We provide a comprehensive style guide upon booking to help you prepare the perfect wardrobe.

We will invite you to our studio, or set up a video call for you to be WOW’d by your viewing gallery within 2 weeks from your session.

During this time you can also ask questions about portraits and make some plans for your walls at home to hold a place to enjoy these stunning photos!

A detailed styling consultation with your input and request for colour, theme, cake design and balloons.
There are two options a simple package / $200 or an elaborate design for $500. This is explained in further communications and relates to the size of the cake and decorations.

With guidance if needed, your favourite images will be edited and retouched with your requests and sent to your within 2 to 4 weeks from appointment.

All wall art, print and albums are in production and will be received within a 10 to 15 day time frame.

We photograph our maternity sessions both in-studio and on-location. We have some personal favourites in and around Sydney, guided by the light and time of year… but we are always open to our client’s inspiration!
